But they do this to everyone, so it's not like they're bigoted.

Fargo: Northwesterners
Big Lebowski: People from L.A. - all of them.
I don't think they're so much trying to make fun of these people for the sake of distinguishing their own brilliance, I believe it's just that they've discovered that you can tell a better story with extremely eccentric characters. Where eccentricities define the character and dictate a character's actions. Sure, it turns them into caricatures of real people and real cultures . . . but you wind up with a fun story.
When you read dilbert, do you complain that it's just another example of Scott Adams making fun of people he considers inferior to his brilliant self . . in this case, Human Resource personel? No, because his caricatures are funny .. and tell a good story.
