The first time you liked old man Gerard? Man, that is one far out statement. Sort of like "This is the first time I liked Beethoven"The man is a mountain. He is to fine acting what Boeing is to air transport. What has been your problem with him up to now?
The Closet is a tremendously entertaining movie, few cliche's here and there, but a blitz, a real blitz. It is in the best tradition of good French comedy.
And Depardieu there is not even acting, he is simply having fun. Whatever the role, he just enters it and lives there for as long as it take to make the film. When it comes to acting brilliance and naturalness he is in the very small select group in the last century. On this continent perhaps only the bad boy Jack Nicholson has that raw power of an ice-breaker, without losing the detail and finesse of the best Faberge jeweler.
