I thouroughtly enjoyed it, althought my wife was mildly annoyed by this long and deliberate film. I would not even mind wathing it again - so much style and top class imagery. Who could forget the face of that girl that killed herself - such charged emotional scene. At almost three hours this is not for everyone's stamina, and I do often get restless, but here I felt completely comfortable and relaxed, just flowing with it. I could certainly see some weaknesses - not too few, actually - but somehow they did not distract.
Perhaps not the finest Gong Li's performance as she is beginning to believe that here very presense is enough, perhaps? But not bad, mind you.
And for you DVD fans - an obligatory image quality statement. It was quite good overal. No, not at the level of your beloved "demo" disks, and "Lost in Space" would kill it on all counts... he-he-he... or rather... crying...
