Whilst fighting a bout with insomnia (I lost), I was flipping through the TV at 2:00 a.m. when I came across a truly outstanding movie - "The Garden of the Finzi-Continis" by Vittorio de Sica. I had been meaning to watch this film for quite some time but, like most things, I put it off. Unfortunately, it started at 1:30 a.m. so I missed the first half-hour. But the rest...Ah! Pure delight!! I cannot believe it was filmed in 1971 - almost 30 years ago. Of course, I immediately fell in love with Dominique Sanda...let's see, she's probably close to my age now! The acting was flawless, the cinemetography almost surrealistic, and the storyline heartbreaking, yet beautiful. If i can somehow see the first 30 minutes, this may explode into my Top Ten. No wonder it garnered so many awards in its day.
