Here's my list. I've stuck to those I think have great video, or sound and are also good movies in their own right. There are a lot more I could recommend, but you only asked for ten, so here goes.10. The fugitive - get this for the DD 5.1 soundtrack, heck, get it for the train wreck at the start and just repeat it over and over and over.
9. 12 Monkeys - can't get enough of this movie, excellent transfer.
8. From the Earth to the Moon - OK it's a boxed set, but if you have even the slightest interest in Space this is a must-buy. Stunning visuals and just so well done it deserves to be seen by a lot more people.
7. Apollo 13 - you've probably seen this, but you haven't seen it in it's full glory if you haven't seen it on DVD. Apollo launch = great sub test.
6. Picnic at hanging rock (Criterion) - beautiful restoration and transfer of this etherreal and somewhat spooky movie.
5. Fiddler on the Roof - great restoration and transfer.
4. Kundun - visually, this is the best DVD I've seen and may be Scorsese's best movie ro date. As a movie about the life of the Dalai Lama it is far superior to 'Seven Years in Tibet'. This movie had a limited run in theatres due to pressure from the Chinese government, so not many people saw it. Get it on DVD for a visual treat.
3. Dances with Wolves - one of those movies you either loved or loathed. I loved it, but you need a better than average player and a BIG screen to get the most from this disc.
2. Casablanca - very impressive remastering and transfer.
1. Bladerunner - for whatever reason, probably my favorite movie and a great transfer.
In addition, buy or rent "Video Essentilas". You need this disc.
