My favorite western

No, it's not "The Searchers" or "Stagecoach" or "High Noon" ot any of the Ford cavalry trio. It is "One Eyed Jacks", Marlon Brando's 1962 one time directorial outing. Teaming actor Brando and Karl Malden in their third film together, "One Eyed Jacks" is a wonderfully written, photographed, and played out tale of betrayal and revenge. Brando plays Rio, the "Kid", and Malden is his most evil, as "Dad" Longworth. Some say it's overlong, but for me it's never long enough (rumor has it that there's an even longer version that is shown periodically in Europe). OEJ has many great lines as well, and the choice of the Monterey, California, location is a wonderful touch.

I remain a big fan of all the westerns mentioned above (and others) but for me "One Eyed Jacks" towers above the rest.

By the by, OEJ was supposed to be directed by Stanley Kubrick, who worked on it for a short time but was called away to do "Spartacus" after Anthony Mann was fired by "Spartacus" actor/producer Kirk Douglas.
