There was a thread on this board about a week ago in which most of the posters trashed the preview. Did any of you go and see it?Saw it. Enjoyed it. Some reviewers disliked it's uneven tone, the gansta based comedy combined with the low key and slow Southern gentility mixed with Farrely brothers crudeness. Personally, I think it works. The contrast makes each style funnier. The Coens don't do things in their movies without purpose and the way all these styles mixed was perfectly paced and orchestrated.
The movie's strength is the art direction and cinematography. The overall visual style is both soothing and outrageously brash. I love the extremely creatively shot scenes on the bridge in the last act as the caper melts down. It's the kind of bravura film making the Coens are known for.
I'd call it a mid-pack effort from them. Perhaps a bit of a disappointment, but from where I sit, a mid-pack Coens effort is much better than many film makers best work.
