War is different for everyone, so are the war movies. Being Russian, I am used to Russian and German ways of looking at WW2, so I would have hard time recommending many movies. Besides, most of the movies I like were never translated into English. Of the ones that were, I would highly recommend "Come and See".
I've seen quite few amazingly good German movies about the war, but most of them (for reasons beyond my understanding) were never translated into English, either.
Oh and another one I really like, though not exactly a war movie - "Quiller's memorandum", though the book is MUCH better.
But if you knew Russian, I would be able to suggest quite few really good movies...
