I fully understand that the Georgian director Otar Iosseliani is not exactly the household name for many here. Yet, he, and the Georgian cinematography in general, do deserve special recognition.I will not go into much details about this film, I will just tell you that it is indeed quite special... if you have predisposition for such movie.
Or perhaps you don't... but listen, it is available on a DVD in the US, and you can rent it. So why don't you do it and see what YOUR reaction is to this marvel... and marvel it is.
I have to warn you - unless you are reasonably familiar with the Soviet and Georgian history and culture, some of its humor and beauty will be lost, but I am sure enough will make it through to interest those who are willing to think outside the box.
One thing for sure - you can do whole lot worse for that $4 rental... even if you say "Huh?" at the end.
