"Band of Brothers"

My son and his wife finally returned my DVD box of this HBO mini-series. It is based on the Stephen Ambrose book of the same name and follows a copmany of paratroopers from training (a flashback) through D-Day and then various events in the WW II Europen theater.

Gritty era-type color cinematography, DTS sound, anmamorphic picture, and tastefully done (i.e., un-noticeable) CGI. Strangely, the first episode is the wekest but the second, especially the taking of a German artillary emplacement, contains some of the finest combat sequences I have ever seen in any film. The strategy of this capture is still being taught at West Point, or so the end credits inform us.

Best when watched one episode at a time, it's that powerful.
