Stolen Kisses (1968)

Well, I'm still in my French cycle and just finished this and "Love On The Run". Admittedly cute, entertaining films about the young, energized Antoine Doinel's (Truffaut?) confused life. I found "Kisses" more entertaining and delightful than the wrap-up of Doinel saga in "Run". Leaud's floppy-hair and darting around are quite memorable devices carried through most of the series. And, his ability to carry this character forward with perfect continuity is commendable.

The really interesting thing on the "Kisses" disk is the bonus documentary material on the "Langlois Affair" and the cancellation of the Cannes Film Festival in '68. Sweating out the draft that year, I could have cared less about Fwance and its film industry so it was interesting to see how much the government controlled the creative enterprise and, particularly, the distribution of film. The creative community's bowels definitely got in an uproar and the footage shows the royalty of French cinema protesting and expressing their displeasure. The Netflix "Kisses" is Criterion.
