This early Mamet film is light and whinsical and well written and acted. Veteran performer Don Ameche stars as a poor immagrant shoe shiner who is asked to substitute for a mob boss about to ne indicted for murder. For an (undisclosed) large sum of money he agrees, figuring he'll get out of prison in 3-5 years and return to Sicily and buy a fishing boat with the money. Joe Montegna is a Mafia underling on probation and he is assigned as Ameche's weekend
guard and handler. He takes Ameche to Nevada for a series of encounters and adventures.Virtually the entire rest of the cast appears with Montegna in Mamet's later "Homcide", a more serious film. Maybe some of the same music is in both as well, I'm not sure.
