Troy: One Hell of a Guiltless Pleasure!

Guys, grab your ball caps, don you Nikes, work up some extra testosterone, and drag your knuckles on down to the picture show. You got some excellent combat and action to see.

This was an excellent adventure. Well acted, well choreographed, great cast--the CGI was terrific and nearly transparent. Brian Cox gets my kudos for playing a deliciously malevolent Agamemnon and O'Toole for a sympathetic King of Troy. Bana played an upright Hector while Bloom pulled up the rear with a weasely Paris. As expected, Pitt was the weakest link but not distracting. Diane Kruger, Helen, is gorgeous and well worth a war.

The single combat tops what I've seen lately and the brief views of the battle lines clashing smack of how it was really done eons ago.

Not a dull moment in this film--sure it compresses ten years into what appears to be several weeks, but that's okay too. It moves along quite nicely.

Peterson has outdone Ridley. He narrowed the scope of the story and did not over-"spectacle-ize" the subject.

My fave line: Polyadora to Achilles -- "I though you were a dumb brute. I could forgive a dumb brute."
