Absolute don't miss television.Yes, based on a half borrowed theme from 'American Idol.' But with an added twist that IS genius. Instead of only showing a few stange and sadly talentless sorts, in the show's first few episodes of the series run. The show is comprised entirely of crystal goblet shatterers. The twist? Those with real talent, are unceremonioulsy given their walking papers, immediately. And the bizarro types are lavished with praise. Propelled to the next 'round.' A jet to Hollywood, limousines, fame, fortune (?). Sure, the show is based in the humiliation of said individuals, making it a very guilty pleasure (but as yet, not against the law). The show is very mildly lookist (though some eye candy is present), and also possessed with the likelihood that some of the 'contestants' suffer from some form or other of mental illness. Mental illness never being pretty. But, hearing Tone Loc saying (half under his breath): "Oh my goodness gracious." Is PRICELESS!
The show is of course not in the same league as gilded classic American television, the great dramas and comedies, etc.. But, it does give me the happiest of feet. And I dare one and all to NOT watch it.
The one hour show, will be reprised for two hours, starting at eight p.m., Friday evening om the WB network. Don't know if it will contain additional/different/new footage, or be a double repeat?
