...film noir is my favorite genre, or style of film(s), and big Bob Ryan was a major player (Crossfire, Act of Vengence, The Set Up, Berlin Express, On Dangerous Ground, Odds Against Tomorrow, and the near noir Bad Day at Black Rock are among my favorites).Danny Duryea is, without question, the SLEAZIEST character in all of noir...he slaps women around for a hobby in most of his noir films, (Scarlet Street, Woman in the Window, Manhandled, the REALLY GREAT Criss Cross, Too Late for Tears...among others)...where he wallops (in order)...the lovely Joan Bennett (first two films), Dorothy Lamour, Yvonne DeCarlo, and Lizbeth Scott.
Both Ryan and Duryea are at their best when they're being bad.
Add the even bigger Bob Mitchum to the list, and you've got three of the finest film noir has to offer, imo.
Darkly,
Gary
