This is a typically contrived tearjerker from the pen of Nicholas Sparks but it is very well acted by oldtimers James Garner and Gina Rowlands and Joan Allen and particularly by newcomer Rachel McAdams as the younger Allie. This the third Sparks novel (all poorly written) to be made into a film and it IS better than "Message in a Bottle" and "A Walk to Remember". The old cars are great
