The entire premise of the film is nerds against establishment jerks (an endless formula since "Animal House"), yet the one truly unique character, the Pirate, is applauded for "coming to his senses" and appearing at the end as a clean cut guy, ready to become responsible--and he's applauded by his mates.
That is the small hole that sinks the ship.
