DVD has a better picture and only a few late LDs were released with Dolby Digital 5.1 and even fewer with DTS 5.1 so the DVD sound is generally better (although I have A/B'd a DD LD sound track with the same movie on DVD and because of its larger "real estate" the LD sounded better (more coherent, "sweeter")).Many films on LD have not yet been released on DVD and some will never be.
LDs can be had for a song these days.
