Released around the same time as the similarly themed "Armagedon", "Deep Impact" is a far superior effort, more believable and less over the top. Tea Leone stars as a an ambitious MSNBC investigative reporter who accidently stumbles on a secret government project to build a giant spacecraft with Russia to alter the course of a comet on a collision course with the earth. Morgan Freeman as president takes her under his wing and also appoints aging astronaut Robert Duvall to pilot the spacecraft in the comet's orbit. A number of subplots don't hinder the overall thrusat of the story. The special effects are convincing and hope rises at the end.Tea is just beautiful.
