Ummm ... I really like Lars Von Trier's films.Breaking the Waves is one of my favorite films (and it's got really interesting "intermission" sequences with 70s music if you're a music lover). It's also very twisted, but Von Trier has this way of pushing situations past the point of sanity and, instead of coming across as artsy-fartsy or pretentious, churns out a powerful emotional payoff. I can't belive that I get teary eyed watching his over-the-top situations -- Von Trier somehow manages to make the audience put aside any sense of beliveability and just *feel* for the characters. To me, filmmaking is at its finest when a director can take two wet sticks of wood and rub them to make fire.
