Just watched "2046"

featuring Tony Leung, Zhang Ziyi, Gong Li, etc. I'm on a trip to Asia right now, but I don't think this movie opened in the States yet.

I was expecting a more sci-fi movie from the trailers, but the movie turned out to be mostly set in 1960's, with the sci-fi elements not really being sci-fi. The stories, references to past movies by the same director, unconventional timelines prevent a quick, accurate summary of the movie. The movie, I think, explores universal themes like regret, love, longing. Some people I watched the movie with found it terribly boring, but I myself enjoyed it quite a bit since I don't mind having a few loose ends and "scratching head."

I understand that in order to get more out the movie, one needs to be familiar with the director's (Wang Kar Wai) previous movies, especially "In the Mood of Love."

Anyone else see 2046?
