I had avoided this mainly because I didn't think much of Regarding Schmidt. This is much better. The dialog is sharp, the characters are complex and very flawed, yet there is a core of warmth that is never carried too far. There are some laugh-out-loud funny moments. This deserves all the praise that has been heaped upon it. I think it is going to leave the art theater and make it into wide distribution. The art theater was packed by the way.Recently got a DVD player and have been watching some of the great movies in film history. It is wonderful to be able to do that, but seeing a movie in a real theater is infinitely more absorbing and satisfying.
