The audience response has a LOT to do with it . . .

My audience was a numb as I was. You're right, this seems like a Japanese theme for a horror flick and I certainly agree with you on that.

The last fight particularly irritated me. It seems that so many movies are marred by some pretentous, poorly done battle with the supernatural or spirit world. It always seems to go silly. A few good examples are Arnold's battle with the devil in the church (End of Days), Keanu's battle with the devil (Devil's Advocate), and Jeff Goldblum witnessing a battle between good and evil (Hideaway). Each of these movies stood well on their legs until someone decided an animated climax would be spectacular--each ending laughable.
