John Wayne won an Academy Award for acting playing one eyed Rueben "Rooster" Cogburn in this enjoyable tale of a young woman who hires an aging alcoholic marshall (Wayne) to find her father's murderer. Kim Darby is the yung woman and Glen Campbell is along for the search as a Texas ranger. Robert Duvall in a smaller part is the chief bad guy. The mannered speech reminds one of the book. This role for Wayne is one of his best, along with Ethan Edwrads in "The Searchers" and (I forget his name) in "Red River". Beautifully photographed.
