The graphics used in the film were used to dramatize something other than monsters, gore or destruction. The CG used in ESOTSM was fascinating to watch and is at one end of the spectrum, whereas "Van Helsing" which I'll never see, but did have to sit throught the previews for, is at the other.
CG is just another tool for filmmakers... Some artists use it in their films to further the story, "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" & "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy for example...Some base the movie on the CG, "Pearl Harbor" & the aforementioned "Van Helsing".It takes an artist to use it to tell a story.
