Loved it the first time I saw it. It was years ago and I am almost afraid to see it again...it may be too "precious" this time around. I have heard that the new DVD features a longer cut which explains several oddities in the original version seen in the US.Besides the obvious attractions of Beatrice Dalle, I really enjoyed the sequences set around the restaurant. Reminded me of my teenage days in fast food! If you think people can get angry "outside" try and deal with them when they are hungry, too! I recall that Jean-Hughes Anglade was very good and I always enjoy seeing him pop up in American films now and then.
Jean-Jacques Beinex. What is he doing today? I loved "Diva" and think it is probably his best film. I can still remember the tone of Wilhelminia Wiggins Fernandez when she says, "But I've never heard myself sing before!" I enjoyed his work in "Betty Blue" very much.
I am just afraid that this might be one of those films you first see and think "Wow!" and then see years later and wonder why you said, "Wow!" That is why I am trying to be low-key about it until I get my hands on the DVD. The first time around, I loved the goofball things in it...Zorg and Betty painting the house, the policeman who sings the song about being a parent, Zorg's conversation with his female roommate after she has been laid.
Beatrice Dalle! What an entry into the cinema! She certainly makes the shy American actresses of today look pretty palid, doesn't she?
