From firsthand accounts, his relationship with them was entirely platonic. But obsessive nonetheless.If Brits & Aussies can play Americans, I see no reason why Americans cannot essay British characters. Clive Owen, much as I like him, seems as unlike Barrie as one could get, whereas the physically slight, androgynous Mr. Depp, whose charm is legendary, seems a better match for Barrie both physically and temperamentally. (I also assert that Owen CAN act, BTW.)
The movie is mostly twaddle. Beautifully shot and costumed.
