Your post should have had a spoiler alert. This movie is best enjoyed when the viewer goes in without any hints or knowing the "basic premise" you mention.
This movie hit me like a freight train, though the usual Korean over-melodrama at the end kind of was a letdown.
Korea is putting out some really enjoyable movies of late, I must say..
