Anna Magnani is worth the price of admission. Her performance in "The Rose Tattoo" is one of the great performances in the history of film. She is magnificent. As for the film - it's very good but no classic.Another film starring Burt Lancaster that features a bravura performance by an actress is "Come Back, Little Sheba." Shirley Booth's tour-de-force performance in that film won her a well-deserved Oscar. Burt plays an loser alcoholic self-pitying failure and he is quite good. Shirley Booth, however, steals the show. (She had won a Tony for the same role on Broadway)
As for Mr. Lancaster, I think he was a very good actor when he wanted to be. His performance in "The Birdman of Alcatraz" is about as good as it gets. It's an excellent film and Lancaster is riveting.
