Roll with the punches, Patrick

Just having favorably compared this to Saving Private Ryan, major alarm bells ring!
Having not seen this film all I can say is that Bruno Ganz looks the part
I have read the stenographers account and the W. Shirer Rise and Fall of the 3rd Reich account of the last bunker days and sincerely doubt that any "humanistic" take on Hitlers last days would ring true
To make any attempt at portraying A. Hitler to a 2005 audience with a degree of acceptance would require major bending of the truth anyway; Hitler was simply too maniacal in the flesh to be believable now
ie; "That barking mad little idiot couldn't possibly have been Der Fuhrer" would be the reaction if he was truly accurately portrayed in his final days
Hitler was a propaganda puppet, as choreographed and preened as any Rock star. As well as manic, delusional and paranoid
After an attempt was made by assassins on his life, the bomb plot that failed, he spiralled into total insanity, surrounded only by his most trusted cronies
The last days in the Bunker,in print, are a fascinating look at human desperation. In film, any humanistic approach to A. Hitlers last days would be totally contrary to eye witness evidence of that individual, place and time
Fake, fake and fake

Grins
