Kieslowski is so tedious

If you recall the Dekalog, you will know the segment about a young guy watching woman through the window.

In the Dekalog the whole story took one hour, and if it wasn't such a brilliant story, not so skillfully told, at least it didn't have time to get onto your nerve.

The "Short Film About Love" is basically the longer version of the same afair, 86 minutes to be exact, shot one year earlier.

It is 50% longer and about as much more boring.

Never mind the fact that the whole deal is contrived... one can certainly manage that and not die in the scope of 60 minutes. But stretch it to 90 minutes, and you better have intensive care units on the ready. With plenty of oxigen.

There IS some beauty in that slow and deliberate narration, and some say it is about loneliness... no doubt, and it IS a worthy subject, except there are better films about it.

The film will tickle the unsophisticated, and irritate the experienced. It has something to offer, but it covers it with so much silly sand that digging those nuggets becomes a chore.

I am not a great lover of Krzysztof Kieslowski. Yes, generally his films are far better than most of the run-of-the-mill Hollywood production, and there are gems here and there, but overall the director has not been able to raise above the "promising" category.
