Still in the theaters! I finally got to see it at the Landmark Main Art Theater in Royal Oak, MI.Pretty good film. I'm not sure I'd heap the same amount of adulation as some of the reviewers had, but it *is* really good. Pretty well paced, slows down when it needs to but never for too long.
It's a nice combination of dry and somewhat slapstick humor (I'm trying to keep away from the wine metaphors :) The acting is top-notch all around, the scenery is beautiful, the casting is spot-on. All around a good movie.
There were a couple spots where the director's inexperience shows, though. Some gags were timed poorly, they were still funny, but could have been funnier with more skilled editing. Some of the fade in/out time moving quickly montages weren't timed well, and seemed unbalanced. These are minor complaints, and they don't detract much from the movie overall.
Very good movie, I'll need to see it again for a definitive rating, but for now:
85/100 on the absolute scale (where 100 is the perfect comedy/drama)
During the previews I saw a trailer for Kung Fu Hustle, an insane looking movie by the director of Shaolin Soccer (a good movie I've heard was butchered by the American distributors) Looks to be a cross between Chicago (the musical) The Matrix and Iron Monkey (another excellent Kung-Fu comedy) Looking forward to it :)
