The cast of A and B actors really shines in this look at the brief dance marathon craze in the early Great Depression era. Jane Fonda is particularly good as the tough talking down and out would be movie actress reduced to this type of competition to survive. The late Gig Young is just perfect as the "Yozah!" shouting MC who milks every situation involviong the competetors for every ounze of crowd pleasing he can summon. There are flash forwards throughout and although at the end we do not learn tha actual winners it doesn't matter, so exhausted are we at that point. Directed by Sident Pollack in one of his best efforts. Highly recommended.
