I liked "Howards End"When interviewed last year in the UK, Merchant commented;
"What made a person civilised in the past is reading, writing and the art of conversation. Now that has all changed. Human relations now are established with laptops, not with other human beings, which makes for a very boring film - unless you have someone springing up out of the laptop to murder someone else.
"A lot of people spend the whole day at a computer and then go home and spend their evenings looking at the internet."
He was making a movie with Tina Turner cast as a Goddess; it makes me wonder what other projects we'll miss by his passing
