Saw it last night at the Birmingham Palladium. Newer theater, sound system and projector haven't been ruined yet. Finally, a movie almost as good as one of the original three. Wooden acting spurred on by lousy dialog? Yes. Overwrought action scenes? Yes. At least this time it's entertaining :)
There are some genuinely good bits of technical directing here. Interesting visual paralells, good use of scenery, and it sets up the plot well for the next three movies. The first third is too fast, the middle is too slow, but it ends off just about right.
I'd compare the movie to Titanic. Technically brilliant and fun to watch, if you ignore the lesser plot points and bits of awful acting.
Overall score: 75/100 (Actually not bad, I'd rate the next three in the 70's-80's, and the last two in the 40's)
