"Minority Report"

rico,

Sorry, as we so often agree, but I just hated "Minority Report" start to finish. Mostly this is my now institutionalised dislike for Tom cruise, but the whole premise and presentation just annoyed me. The premise of the three seers in a fish tank dreaming of future crimes that Cruise runs on home theatre system was never developed beyond the notion. And the method of detecting the future crimes by "conducting" that multi-media orchestra of snippets of telepaths' dreams, the abduction of the seer, the whole thing was not even a thought-provoking fantasy about "thought police". There was much desperation for "realism" and f/x and production values. There isn't a semblance of emotional content, but nor is the action aspect interesting.

The production design with the goofy pod-cars climbing the building was just silly looking and the general futurism was superficial and offered nothing exciting- just slick, contrived machinations with props. For me, it's telling that it was based on a short story as it seemed to me to be mostly "filled out".

Miscalculated and dull. Because the premise is so silly, I never cared enough about the Cruise character to see the ending. I assume he has a confrontation in the last 30 minutes within an enclosed space with the subject of his intended murder and/or his colleague pursuers.

For some reason, I had a very similar reaction to another movie I disliked immediately from the same period as "Min. Rep.": "The Bourne Identity"- probably the emotional austerity and unsympathetic main character.

Cheers,

Bambi B
