"Hide and Seek"

This is somewhat of a spoiler for those that have not seen the film, so you may not want to read it if you haven't. You may not want to bother if you do however. I watched this last weekend on DVD with my wife (my usual film companion) and was disgusted. Robert De Niro and Dakota Fanning have very convincing and well supported roles, but the ending was so far from where I wanted it be that I was sickened by the outcome. I couldn't get over the usual "protaganist" blunders (that must happen to further the stupidity of a movie) and then when the final twist came about I was somewhat surprised but more just disgusted. What appear to be failings of the father to protect his child in this role turn out to be a horrible betrayal and sickness. There are four alternate endings on the DVD, so some have to be better than the one chosen for the big screen. The one chosen has to be the biggest surprise as it goes against human nature and is so unfathomable. After seeing that version, I did't have the stomach for the others. I do love the idea of alternate endings for films in general and really enjoyed "Run Lola Run" for it's versions among other attributes.
