Julia Roberts flees an abusive husband by faking her drowning death from a sailboat in a storm. She has secretly overcome her fear of water by learning to swimm at a local YWCA so her husband is convinced she is dead. But then he gets a condolence call from one of her swimming cronies and begins to suspect she is still alive. He sets about trying to find her by using hired investigators. Meanwhile, Julia has settled in a small Iowa town and taken a different identity. She is also reluctantly becoming involved with her next door neighbor, a college professor. Then hubby shows up...
This theme was better handled in the more recent "Enogh" with J Lo but SWTE is still enjoyable.
