I had a brillant memory of Rod Steiger performance, and it was mainly recognised as such.
For the film, a fair picture well made.
Well I was wrong on both accounts.
RS play is over done and Bondarchuk directing failed in every possible way.
He goes certainly picture to picture to what is said to have happend.
But there is no soul, no, nothing.
War & peace was so good and here we miss a Tolstoi and Dino de laurentis is no erzatz for him, no money in the world would be.
Plummer is the only one to insufle some life.
Amazingly boring. A film without soul. Just like 1812 well orchestrated, a good overview of the battle.
But that will not make a good film.
Or any film at all.
Now let us wait what Victor will say in a few months from now.
