Wasn't three hours enough to finish it? I would not know, as I bailed out much sooner.I love Olmi, but this biblical story wore me down in no time at all.
It started with wonderful scenes and beautiful episodes, full of promise. But then it quickly bogged down in symbolism that I could only take on certain days, and only in certain moods.
Last night wasn't such a day, it seems, so I did the unthinkable - I walked out on Olmi... something I thought could never happen.
I still mentally go back to those scenes and I am still under their spell, Olmi is a master, but biblical stories just don't have that resonance in me.
Is this a movie only for religious people? I am inclined to say largely yes. Although I would not mind to submerge in its undeniable beauty some time again... even if not for full three hours.
If you love Olmi take a look at that work (it you have not seen it yet). There is so much there that even my brief 45 minutes with it left a lasting impression.
