Cold Summer of 1953 (1988)

The story of a small village that was home to politcal exiles that is invaded by recently amnestied convicts. The newly released criminals take over the village and wait to hijack a launch coming to pick up two of the recently amnestied villagers. Drama and death ensue as the villagers slowly find a way to fight back against the brutes. The film was less than stellar with poor direction and script. I feel the main purpose of the film was to slap Beria for the amnesty he granted to all criminals across the USSR shortly after Stalin's death. In fact, the best part of the DVD was the minidocumentary on Beria in the special features.
