Given your appreciation for Natalie Portman, I was wondering if you've seen Closer (Mike Nichols film.) It has been discussed here a few times with the opinions mixed. Based on the types of films you've praised on this site I think you might find the film a bit too talky, forced, and stiff, but it is truly an adult role for Natalie, and one I believe she handles quite well. But then, I liked the film, and love Natalie.
Garden State also is a nice performance by her, but I do not think that is your type of movie.
