stand comparison to "The Grifters" and Mamet's "House of Cards."
It can't.
Everything is done well but the sense of "deja-vu" never leaves the viewer and the ending confirms it. The problem with movies like this, where a twist at the end is de rigeur, is that the director has no place to turn: the film can only have one of two possible endings and both have been done before, many times.
However, the often used, incorrectly, "A star is born" must be applied to Diego Luna. He is fantastic.
Mag Guyllenhall shows she absolutely is the most unattractive of the modern actresses, with a strangely shaped body: thin on top with massive calves and thighs.
