Kate Hudson is a burnt out hospice care worker who quits her hospital job to care for a private patient who has had a stroke (John Hurt). Gina Rolands is the wife. They live in a sparsely furnished Louisiana mansion which has a history of violence in the early twentieth century. Hoodoo (a non-religious variant of voodoo) is believed in by Rolands, who may hav caused Hurt's stroke with a curse. Periodically Hudson returns to her roommate in New Orleans but most of the film takes place in the creepy mansion. The film is dark and brooding and quite atmospheric with calculated chills. Much of it takes place during rainstorms. I found it just so so.
