The lead character, the "prefect," is terrifically portrayed by an actor that does more with his eyes than most Americans do with their exaggerated arms flaylings and mannerisms.
No black and white characterizations here but, rather, human beings possessed of differing amounts of good and evil. The music is wonderful but doesn't overwhelm the story.
In its tone, it reminds me of that fine and very underrated Brasilian film, Central Station.
