Nearly two hours flashed by, and never was I without at least a
smile on my face. And occasionally there were tears, of laughter.Granted, the movie is raunchy, which normally I do not like, but
the raunchy characters are exposed as juveniles, if not infantiles.
Andy, our man, is self-respectingly cleanmouthed. Although he does,
ah, *grow* -- and a very nuanced process it is, indeed. Steve
Carrell is a consummate comic actor; his next role should earn him
10 mil.And very much an actors' movie it is . All are given the latitude to
perform; yes our leading man co-wrote the thing, but everyone's on
stage convincingly. Also there are many little directors' gags,
bits such as the actors by themselves wouldn't pick up on. I love
that stuff!Best of all, Virgin comes equipped with a real finale in the form
of a curtain call. My buddy and I couldn't stop laughing.Afterwards, as we headed out to Boylston Street from the AMC
Fenway, Boston's largest screens, the crowds were gathering for the
second Rolling Stones concert a couple blocks down the street at
Fenway Park. It was a merry scene, exactly the urban human
landscape that makes living in this city such a joy. The
restaurants and the bars were overflowing with happy folk.I was reminded of the time last October I exited the theatre and
out on Boylston Street suddenly a huge, HUGE, HUGE roar arose from
Fenway Park. Passing my parked car, I drifted down that way and
suddenly the fans spilled out whooping and hollering in a tsunami
of red and white clothing. I'll let Wikipedia tell it:October 16: David Ortiz keeps the Red Sox alive with a two run
walk-off home run in the bottom of the twelth inning of Game 4,
completing a comeback in which the Yankees entered the ninth inning
only three outs away from their 40th American League pennant. That was such excitement, I no longer remember what the movie was.
