"Harry and Tonto"

Art Carney won the 1974 Acadeny Award for Best Actor against heavy competition for his portrayal of an aging retired professor who embarks upon a cross country trip after being evicted from his soon to be destroyed apartment. His companion is his cat Tonto. Along the way he sees his three adult children and has many adventues, some caused by Tonto himself. For some reason, this film was never released on laserdisc and not on DVD either until last week. It is every bit as enjoyable as I remember it. There is also commentary by director Paul Mazursky. A cameo by Chief Dan George is hilarious. Highly recommended.
