What movie is this?

Hi,

Maybe someone out there can answer this question about what the name of this movie is. I saw it as a child on TV about 30 years ago and it scared the heck out me. I have never seen it again. Anywhere. To this day I see some of these movie images in my nightmares, so it had a fairly large impact on me mentally as a kid. I have been searching for this movie since I first saw it.

I know that it was an apocolyptic themed movie. It had large 2' long locusts or some kind of insects, with some kind of coocoon like things being found underground about the same size (no... not "Body Snatchers"). The ending had cities burning, huge flames and crumbled buildings. It was done in an urban setting.

That's all I can remember. I once heard of some movie that I thought might have been it. This movie was described as some very harcore religous based thing, I got the feeling that this may have been it, but I'm not sure and didn't catch the title.

I know this movie wasn't some kind of "made for tv" thing (like "Gargoyes", remember that masterwork). My feeling is that it was a theatrical released film.

So was this vague enough? Anyone have a clue. If you have sugestions as to what this movie could be, please kick back some desriptions of scenes, plots, or people (and of course the title) so I can, maybe, jar my memory.
