Coming soon to a theater near you - A History Of Violence

In very limited release currently. We just got back/ Even got Mrs. Nasty to go along when I told her William Hurt was in it.

This is a difficult movie to write a review about without giving away key plot elements.

In general, this is a VERY dark thriller. The title should give you some hint about whats going on.

Cronnenburg's mystery maintains its secret quite a long way into the movie, before the audience is given critical clues. It starts slowly but builds up steam and rewards the viewer with a several mini climaxes before a satisfactory "semi non hollywod" denoument.

Bad guys are very bad, good guys are very good. Its small town America you know. The violence is swift and certain. No long speeches, with potential victims getting second chances. When they go down, they're down for the count. Very realistic.

Vigo Mortenssen owns his role as the perfect, devoted father and husband. Mario Bella is the perfect HOT wife. Some steamy sex for you preverts. Ed Harris and William Hurt (a bit over the top, but still good) are excellent as bad guys. A couple of other bad guys early on whose nonchalance attitudes and remorseless killing is chilling. Reminded me of Buscemi's partner in Fargo.

Read your local reviews if ya want more details. I read the Dallas paper's review (an "A" BTW) when I got back. Gave away much of the mystery which would have subtracted from the suspense. Suffice to say this is a gritty, suspenseful, violent (but not ultra violent) mystery. ***1/2.
