What could have been a cliche-ridden chick flick is surprisingly good in this story of two bickering sisters who discover they have a grandmother they never knew existed. Their mother committed suicide when they were little and the father never told them about their grandmother and also forbid the grandmother to have anything to do with the girls. The sisters are played by Toni Collette and Cameron Diaz, who spends a fair amount of time in her underwear and bikinis (fine with me). The grandmother is played by Shirley Maclaine and she lives in a a Florida retirement home. Through contact with her and others in the home Diaz discovers talents she was never aware of. Meanwhile back in Philadelphia plain jane attorney Collette quits her job, takes one as a dog walker, and meets and gets engaged to what seeme to be the perfect man. I very much enjoyed this, as did the audience I saw it with today.
